No More Blood for Oil! by Patrick Mackeown dedicated to Muammar Al-Qaddafi

No More Blood for Oil!

A man's blood stains tides
Grotesque and twisted
A bloated, floating corpse
bobbing in an apathetic sea

His hands drift uselessly
They held a baby once
His chapped lips kissed
farewell, grieving wife

Dying soldiers gurgle
Salt seawater weighting
They fought for corporations
Expired for profit's sake

A man's blood stains tides
The guts of nations seeping
But does it mark consciences
Of Western politicians?

No blood for oil:
Patrick Mackeown

Poetry of the day Review:
Yesterday I drove by the gas station, with money in my pocket. Looked at the price with a faint hope in my heart that I would wake up and be able to save a penny or two. Boy was I wrong as hell. I woke up to a 46 cent increase per gallon. With a damn near empty tank to boot. Needless to say i'm kinda ticked off about it. This post is dedicated to that. Btw I kinda hope Muammar Al-Qaddafi  destroys those oil fields in Libya, because then it will force the market to make a change. Else we will be forever a slave to the will power of tyrants. I vote we need to organize a week of boycott for the oil companies. If you let them have power, they will have power. Power corrupts, and absolute power is suicide.

Word of the day:

4.
an instance of boycotting.

  2. To be completely honest, I think the overwhelming focus on the price of oil in the wake of protests is sad and pathetic. It's all I hear about. The media, and people in general, don't talk about the atrocities in Libya without mentioning oil prices. Is that all these people have become to us? A profit? It's just sad.

    Nice poem.

  3. I hate it when the gas prices rise. It always happens right when we are gearing up for summer.

  4. The world is at least 100 years away from having a suitable energy source that will replace oil. Increasing petroleum prices will be the undoing of the world economy, just as it was about 2 years ago when $4 per gallon gasoline impacted the world.

It is time for the United States to build more refineries, drill our own oil, and try to become as independent of the Middle East Oil Barons as we can.

  10. I'm sure this was intentional, but this poem is especially relevant now.

I've heard gas prices have gone up like 15 cents in the last week, and the price per barrel is getting nutty with the politics in the Middle East. Lots of blood being shed over our gas-guzzling cars.

  14. the thing that sucks is oil prices effect EVERYTHING.

everything you use and live with everyday has to be brought you with OIL.

we waste so much OIL and resources just bringing junk to America that we should just be making on our own land!

    buy USA Made products!

  15. Well either way, freedom is coming to the Middle East. And I look forward to the day when we can look back at analogies like this and laugh.
