The Night is Darkening Around Me by Emily Bronte
The night is darkening round me,
The wild winds coldly blow ;
But a tyrant spell has bound me,
And I cannot, cannot go.
The giant trees are bending
Their bare boughs weighed with snow ;
The storm is fast descending,
And yet I cannot go.
Clouds beyond clouds above me,
Wastes beyond wastes below ;
But nothing drear can move me :
I will not, cannot go.
The wild winds coldly blow ;
But a tyrant spell has bound me,
And I cannot, cannot go.
The giant trees are bending
Their bare boughs weighed with snow ;
The storm is fast descending,
And yet I cannot go.
Clouds beyond clouds above me,
Wastes beyond wastes below ;
But nothing drear can move me :
I will not, cannot go.

ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a night that gets worst and worst! But the only thing you can do about is let it's course take!
ReplyDeleteLove the flow of the words in this poem.
ReplyDeleteAs I am son and servant to your will. Supporting!
ReplyDeleteGreat poem as usual
ReplyDeleteMy interpretation of this is the allusion to night as time and old age. That no matter how worse it gets or seems it's still human to cling on (or enjoy) the life that you have at the moment no matter what the circumstance.
ReplyDeletenice :D

ReplyDeleteI like this poem quite a bit more than I liked Wuthering Heights... short and concise, though powerful imagery and sense of mystery.
